Well, here is out first post on our new website. I plan much more regular about writing here.
Today we are going to talk about what is happening in the world of email.
Last week Microsoft 365 Mail servers finally started to turn up the knob on their mail servers. This is making their servers less likely to deliver phishing attempts to their users. Which is a much-needed thing.
This caused one of our clients to be on their naughty list. Our client didn’t do anything wrong, They are an innocent service provider in Ontario, however about 60% of their 1000 automated Invoices sent out at the beginning of April were rejected by Microsoft’s servers.
After investigation this turned out to be caused by their published DKIM records. Which were at one time correctly configured, but recently their web developer changed webhosts and DNS servers.
They ended up using the DKIM records recommended by the webhost. If the web host were also the Email host then this would be correct. But of course, the actual mail host was Microsoft. The Moral of the story.
Keep an eye on your DNS. It can cost real money to have a misconfiguration.
and Ironically this outage was a DNS issue.
